The memorable experiences, fun times and great friends you make are by far the biggest rewards you'll take away from your time at camp, and there could be one other. At selected camps there will be the chance to leave with a John Muir Discovery Award.
The John Muir Award challenges you to do four things:
- Discover a wild place - your summer camp surroundings and where you do your activities
- Explore it - get to know these places and the nature that they have
- Conserve a wild place - do something to make a difference
- Share your experiences of nature and wild places during your time on summer camp
Many camps have activities that will count towards this, and your Team Leader will help you meet these challenges. As a reward for showing awareness, if you have discovered and explored wild places, taken care of the environment and shared your experiences you could achieve a John Muir Award certificate.
